NBC golf announcer Johnny Miller buys Silverado Resort

Napa’s historic Silverado Resort, which boasts two championship golf courses, has been sold to an investment group led by golf legend Johnny Miller, the new owners said Thursday.

“My vision is to bring Silverado back to its former glory so that families, golfers and groups of all kinds can share the same wonderful experiences I have enjoyed in the Napa Valley during the last 30 years,” Miller said.

The new owners plan to add a golf school and upgrade the 1,200-acre resort, which has been on the market since September.

The sale includes two 18-hole golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., a 15,000-square-foot conference center, pools, spa, tennis courts and restaurants surrounding a 135-year-old mansion.

It doesn’t include more than 400 condominium units, which are individually owned and rented to resort guests, or private homes on the golf links.

The resort was owned by the family of the late Japanese industrialist Isao Okawa, who bought it in 1989 for more than $100 million. Since then, some of the property has been developed and sold.
